Removing the Trunnion of a Kenmore Washer/Dryer Combo

I am going to replace the tub seal of the washer unit but am stuck at trying to remove the trunnion. It seems to have fused with the transmission shaft. I have soaked the contact area with WD40 but that did not seem to work. Should I use a heavy hammer at this time?
