problem disassembling cam from agitator mover to replace cam dogs

I have the agitator assembly off the washer....
but the cam will not slide out, and i cannot pry it loose from the agitator to get to the cam dogs.
the instructions for installation say the cam slides out when you hold the agitator mover upside down...
but no go.
